#FORNIAGARA is an idea. What if we practiced loving our neighbour? In a world that is increasingly defining itself by what it is against, what if we begin to live for others, for generosity, for those in poverty, and for those who need hope.

We can’t change the world by ourselves, but we can change someone’s life. What if, instead of taking sides and rallying around the things we’re against, we decide that we are going to put our time and resources toward the things we are for? Not only that, what if we start with our neighbours, streets, schools, cities and the Niagara Region? What if we start here, at home exercising generosity, kindness and love? What could happen to our communities?

A 2010 Harvard Business School survey of happiness in 136 countries found that people who are altruistic—in this case, people who were generous financially, such as with charitable donations—were happiest overall.

It isn't always easy to recognize the people who need our help the most. Talk is cheap. Being #FORNIAGARA means loving your neighbour, doing something tangible, exercising generosity and kindness, and bringing hope.

There are two primary ways we can be for our neighbour. 1) We can practice generosity by helping people practically. 2) We can speak words of hope and kindness that bring life to people, improve their self-image and create a stronger community that is known for what it is for, not against.

#FORNIAGARA partners are organizations, agencies, churches and individuals who want to be know for loving their neighbour, showing kindness and being for others, not against them.

This isn’t a political stance or a social movement, it’s an idea, a hypothesis that love, kindness, generosity and hope are more effective than division and rhetoric. These organizations are the ones who are willing to stop talking about a better Niagara and start doing the things that demonstrate love, kindness and generosity.
